It remains on the stack until it’s countered, it resolves, a rule causes it to be removed from the stack, or an effect moves it elsewhere.Ħ03.3d The remainder of the process for putting a triggered ability on the stack is identical to the process for casting a spell listed in rules 601.2c–d. It has the text of the ability that created it, and no other characteristics. See rule 116, “Timing and Priority.” The ability becomes the topmost object on the stack. Once an ability has triggered, its controller puts it on the stack as an object that’s not a card the next time a player would receive priority.

Then the player who would have received priority does so.Ħ03.3.

These steps repeat in order until no further state-based actions are performed and no abilities trigger. Then triggered abilities are put on the stack (see rule 603, “Handling Triggered Abilities”). Each time a player would get priority, the game first performs all applicable state-based actions as a single event (see rule 704, “State-Based Actions”), then repeats this process until no state-based actions are performed. Each time a player would receive priority, each ability that has triggered but hasn’t yet been put on the stack is put on the stack. (See rule 603, “Handling Triggered Abilities.”) However, nothing actually happens at the time an ability triggers. The creature doesn’t enter the battlefield as 1/1 and then change to 2/2.ġ16.2a Triggered abilities can trigger at any time, including while a spell is being cast, an ability is being activated, or a spell or ability is resolving. A creature spell that would normally create a 1/1 white creature instead creates a 2/2 white creature. Because such effects apply as the permanent enters the battlefield, they are applied before determining whether the permanent will cause an ability to trigger when it enters the battlefield.Įxample: A permanent with the static ability “All white creatures get +1/+1” is on the battlefield. They don’t wait until the permanent is on the battlefield and then change it. r/magicTCG is not produced, endorsed, supported by, or affiliated with Wizards of the Coast.Ħ11.3c Continuous effects that modify characteristics of permanents do so simultaneously with the permanent entering the battlefield.
